Habitat Haiti Builds A World Where Everyone Has A Decent Place To Live
At a home dedication in Zaire in 1979, Habitat’s founder, Millard Fuller, received the first $200 tithe, which he used to help launch a new Habitat affiliate in Aguacatan, Guatemala. From that one donation, the entire Habitat tithe program started. What is tithe? To take at least 10 percent of what Habitat Weber Davis has been blessed with and give it back to be used internationally.Through our Tithe program, Habitat Weber Davis is not only eliminating poverty housing from our own communities, but also eliminating poverty housing in communities around the world.
Tithing within Habitat — a global organization that seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the face of the earth — ensures that funding reaches the countries that have both a Habitat presence and some of the greatest need.
Through your contributions Habitat for Humanity of Weber and Davis Counties has been able to provide housing around the world. In the past couple of years we have concentrated our efforts in Haiti. On January 12, 2010 the earthquake was so devastating, 200,000 families became homeless over night. Habitat International set a goal of building 50,000 homes in five years there. Over the past couple of years, your contributions have built an entire house in Haiti.
