Habitat For Humanity Celebrates #GivingTuesday

#BuildADifference With Your Local Affiliate, Habitat For Humanity of Weber and Davis

Ogden, UT (November 6th 2018) — This #GivingTuesday, Habitat for Humanity of Weber and Davis Counties (HabitatWD) will celebrate giving by the #BuildADifference year-end campaign.

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, this year’s #GivingTuesday will take place on November 27th and will kick off the giving season by inspiring people to collaborate and give back.

HabitatWD has participated in #GivingTuesday over the past few years. This year’s campaign, #BuildADifference is to hopefully inspire community members to make a difference for a local family in need. The proceeds from #BuildADifference will go towards the Guzman family, a single mother with six children, and their new Habitat Home. Their home will be built on 450 15th Street in Ogden, UT 84404.

Habitat Homes are built by the community and is a “hand up not a hand out”. Partner families put in sweat equity hours and pay a 0% interest mortgage once they receive their Habitat Home.

The Guzman family was chosen as the next partner family over a year ago. Aurora Guzman, single mother of six kids, is incredibly excited. She looks forward to giving her children a safe place to call home. To read more about their story, visit habitatwd.org/blog.

The goal from this campaign is to raise funds during the month of November. HabitatWD asks everyone to donate $1, believing it could be doable for any person to donate. Donations can be done by texting “BUILD” to 44-321 or online at habitatwd.org/donate. In addition to monetary donations, HabitatWD hopes to raise awareness of poverty and those who do not have safe places to call home.

There are other ways to join the year-end #BuildADifference campaign for HabitatWD. The local affiliate asks those to use their hashtag #BuildADifference and to tag them @HabitatWD, describing the ways that they build people up, support their community, or make a difference in their own community. Posts will be added online.

#GivingTuesday inspired millions of people too give back and support the causes they believed in after being founded in 2012. Over $300 million was raised online to benefit organizations, and much more was giving in volunteer hours, donations of food and clothings, and acts of kindness.

“We are incredibly inspired by the way the #GivingTuesday community has embraced this concept for a worldwide movement,” said Henry Timms, founder of #GivingTuesday and Executive Director of 92Y. “As we prepare for November 27th, we’re energized and encouraged by the community’s generosity. The levels of creativity, effort and the quality of the new ideas people have contributed and shared are phenomenal.”
