Ground Breaking Ceremony

Habitat for Humanity Announces Ground Breaking Ceremony

Nonprofit kicks off their Ground Breaking Ceremony for their 13th Habitat partner family.

Ogden, UT (March 9, 2018) — Join nonprofit Habitat for Humanity of Weber and Davis Counties for their Ground Breaking Ceremony at 10 AM on April 14th. The next Habitat partner family will be breaking ground with Habitat shovels for their new Habitat home. The home lot is located at 450 15th Street, Ogden, UT 84404.

Habitat for Humanity of Weber and Davis Counties selected the Guzman family after visiting their trailer home between late 2016 to early 2017. Due to the trailer home falling apart, the six children were separated from each other, living at their neighbor’s, friend’s, and other family member’s homes. It hasn’t been until the last couple of months that they have been able to live under the same roof. However, the trailer home is still incredibly small and in poor condition. They are in need of a safe and secure place to call home.

I was super happy when I was picked (as the next Habitat family)…I had butterflies in my stomach,” said Aurora Guzman, the mother of the family. “I’m finally going to have my house big so that all my kids will be under one roof.”

This brand new home is planned to have a basement so that the family can have room and space. The Habitat home will be designed and built according to Habitat International guidelines. The construction for the home will start and be determined by the Construction Managers and Executive Director, and will be based upon the funding for the home. The nonprofit is grateful for any funds and donations that come in, since the proceeds go towards the new Habitat house.

Groundbreaking Ceremony

Habitat for Humanity of Weber and Davis Counties believes in a “hand up” not a “hand out”. The Guzman family will be working alongside the nonprofit, putting in 500 sweat equity hours. As part of getting the home, the family will contribute hours to their home build, the Habitat Ogden ReStore, and other activities. In addition, the Guzman family will go to required classes for budgeting and other classes for homeownership. Since Habitat homes are built alongside volunteers and donors, the house will be affordable for the family to live in.
